We celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the formation of the choir with a Gala Concert at Gresham's School which is also celebrating the centenary of the birth of former pupil Benjamin Britten. The Gounod Mass was premiered on St Cecilia's Day in 1855, 58 years before Britten was born on the saint's feast day. At its first performance, Camille Saint-Saens wrote that "luminous light streamed forth from this Mass... at first one was dazzled, then charmed, then conquered."  We are delighted that for this gala concert the 100-strong choir will be joined by Norfolk Symphony Orchestra to perform this magnificent and often over-looked work.

There will be an extended interval so that the audience may enjoy a summer picnic on the lawns outside the Theatre.

This concert is part of Britten 100 Familiar Fields: celebrating Benjamin Britten's life and music in Norfolk and Suffolk
